BC Women's Hospital + Health Centre (BCWH), part of the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA), is seeking an accomplished physician leader to serve as Department Head, Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology. This role provides strategic leadership for OBGYN services at a provincial tertiary centre, advancing clinical excellence, quality and safety, physician engagement, health human resource planning, and academic collaboration with the University of British Columbia (UBC). The Department Head reports to the Chief Medical Officer for BC Women's Hospital + Health Centre.
Key Responsibilities
The Department Head provides leadership for the BCWH Department of OBGYN and represents the department at provincial, regional and local levels in relation to the hospital mandate, clinical services, and academic matters, in partnership with the UBC Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
In this role, the Department Head will:
* Support the mission, strategic direction and goals of BCWH, while ensuring alignment with the priorities of the BCWH Department of OBGYN.
* Provide leadership and coordination to support physician engagement in hospital activities, including service delivery evaluation, medical audits, peer and interdisciplinary reviews, quality and safety reviews, and patient care improvement initiatives.
* Support department planning related to clinical care, education and research, and participate in hospital planning, service planning, redevelopment initiatives, and activities that impact the delivery of obstetrical and gynecological care.
* Work closely with Medical Affairs, the BCWH Chief Medical Officer, Senior Medical Directors, UBC leaders, Department and Division Heads, and program leaders to support health human resource planning, recruitment planning, credentialing, privileging, peer review, physician coverage, scheduling, and interdisciplinary team development.
* Provide leadership in the development of standards of practice and clinical guidelines, while supporting continuous quality improvement, accreditation requirements, patient quality and safety initiatives, and key performance indicators.
* Collaborate with UBC administration and faculty to support research and education within and beyond the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology.
Qualifications
This position requires:
* Medical Doctor degree
* Current licensure, or eligibility for licensure, with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia
* Certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or equivalent
* Extensive clinical experience in Obstetrics and Gynecology
* Previous academic leadership experience within an existing OBGYN program
* 10+ years of experience in a senior leadership role
