HVAC Service Technician Sustainable Mechanical Systems — Portland, OR Salary: $55,000 - $78,000 per year About Us: Sustainable Mechanical Systems (SMS) is a manufacturer's representative of engineered industrial and commercial heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment. We provide sustainable, innovative, and energy efficient HVAC systems. Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced HVAC Service Technician to join our growing team. In this role, you will diagnose, repair, and maintain residential and commercial heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. You will be the face of our company, delivering exceptional service directly to our customers. Responsibilities: - Diagnose and repair HVAC systems including furnaces, heat pumps, air conditioners, boilers, and ductless mini-split systems - Perform routine preventive maintenance on residential and commercial HVAC equipment - Install new HVAC equipment and components according to manufacturer specifications and local building codes - Accurately complete service tickets, work orders, and inspection reports - Maintain a clean and organized service vehicle with proper parts inventory - Communicate effectively with customers about repair needs, costs, and system recommendations - Respond to emergency service calls as needed, including after-hours and weekends on a rotating basis - Ensure compliance with all safety protocols, EPA regulations, and company policies - Mentor and train apprentice technicians as assigned Qualifications: - Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in HVAC service and repair - EPA 608 Universal Certification required - Valid Oregon journeyman or limited HVAC license preferred - Strong knowledge of residential and commercial HVAC systems, including heat pumps, furnaces, boilers, and ductless systems - Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals - Valid driver's license with clean driving record - Ability to lift 50+ pounds, work on ladders, and perform physical tasks in various weather conditions - Excellent customer service and communication skills - NATE certification is a plus Benefits: - Competitive pay with performance bonuses - Company vehicle and fuel card - Health, dental, and vision insurance - Paid time off and holidays - 401(k) with company match - Ongoing training and professional development - Tool allowance program Sustainable Mechanical Systems is an equal opportunity employer.
