ZRG Partners has been engaged to recruit a Deputy General Counsel for leading utility client located in Central Florida. The Deputy General Counsel will be responsible for providing support, analysis, and counsel on environmental issues, intergovernmental relations and all public/private partnerships engaged in by the utility. He/she will serve the organization by anticipating and guarding our client against legal risks facing the utility, charged with developing and recommending important company policy and positioning on legal issues. Further, the Deputy General Counsel will provide broad subject matter experience in all aspects of law, demonstrating excellent communication skills across the entire organization. And chiefly, he/she will serve as a business partner to leaders within the organization by providing insights and advice on potential legal, regulatory, and business ramifications throughout various decision-making processes. Ideal Experience Seven-plus years of practice in a law department, law firm, government practice, or equivalent experience in a corporate or commercial environment is required. A combination of in-house and law firm experience will be considered a plus, as will a combination of contract law and employment law; Proven ability to influence and collaborate cross-functionally in order to solve problems and implement solutions; Demonstrated legal experience leading initiatives pertaining to the electric power industry. Knowledge of industry best practices and directional growth. Learn and develop an understanding of the Florida energy market as well as the national laws, regulations, and standards governing the industry; Excellent interpersonal communication, coaching, and presentation skills; Clear understanding and experience supporting capital projects of size and scale, to include asset acquisition, transition, and divestiture work; Experience managing outside attorneys and supervising support staff in a corporate environment is required, with cost effective management of outside legal resources to be considered a plus; JD degree from an ABA-approved law school; licensed to practice in the State of Florida and member in good standing with the Florida Bar; Board certified in city, county, and local government law preferred; Must have a working knowledge of Documentum/Legalise and Westlaw Legal Research. *please note this is an abbreviated position description designed to fit within the posting restrictions.
